My personal passion is music, playing guitar. For you, coming to Levi's to Gibson, what was the challenge?Ĭurleigh: Well, for me it's a simple starting point. What better way to deliver it than through music and through real instrument and someone who's crafted their musicianship to the point where they can go live?īaltin: Every person who is successful has this same trait, which is they're basically looking to challenge themselves. We're in that moment, that intersection, where people have had enough novelty, and they just want some authenticity. At Gibson it's synonymous with every generation and genre of music for the past 100 years. That's actually the playbook, a return to authenticity. In my prior life I was the president of Levi's. We're plugged in, tuned in and ready to rock and roll."īaltin: Do you feel like Gibson is coming back at a time where there is now this desire for authenticity and real instrumentation?Ĭurleigh: Yeah, absolutely. When those lights go on, man, we're getting ready. I really don't think people expected much from Gibson, like, "Okay, come back and ease your way back in." I'm like, "We're not easing our way into anything. What an obstacle course." At minimum, showing up to NAMM, it's a little bit of thank you from Gibson to all of our fans.Then we get to reveal all of the new products we've been working on. I certainly could feel it when I arrived as the new CEO in November. I'm just looking forward to feeding off the energy and excitement from a Gibson perspective but also from an an entire industry perspective.īaltin: Does coming back to NAMM feel like a significant step in the Gibson comeback story ?Ĭurleigh: Yeah, let's face it, we went through the obstacle course last year, and it was not easy. As you might remember, Gibson was not there last year, so people say, "Hey, what's new with Gibson this year?" "Hey, we're going to be at NAMM" They're like, "Wow." We're going to show up with some amazing new guitars and throw a little party on Thursday night at the Grove.
